KU School of Nursing students, faculty receive awards at 2011 Recognition Ceremony

With the conclusion of the 2010-2011 academic year, the University of Kansas School of Nursing recognized students for their exceptional accomplishments and faculty for their contributions to nursing education.

UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS

Outstanding Senior Awards -- Given by the KU Nurses Alumni Association to graduating seniors with outstanding scholastic achievement:
- Brooke Blurton, Jetmore, Kan.
- Kevin Conard, Shawnee, Kan.

Kay Schlichter Award --Given by the KU School of Nursing to a graduating senior with outstanding academic achievement who also has demonstrated leadership ability:
- Heather Nelson, Spring Hill, Kan.

Jeanne Quesenbury Award -- Given by the KU School of Nursing to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding clinical performance:
- Jeff Knight, Leawood, Kan.

Dean's Award -- Given by the KU School of Nursing to a graduating senior with outstanding service to the School of Nursing:
- Heather Wurtz, Kansas City, Kan.

Registered Nurse Award -- Given by the KU School of Nursing to a graduating registered nurse for outstanding academic achievement and level of commitment to professional growth:
- Roberta Anson, Gardner, Kan.
- Audrey Roberts, Overland Park, Kan.

Sigma Theta Tau Award -- Given by Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau to graduating senior with outstanding scholastic achievement, research and leadership ability:
- Zachary Schroeder, Newton, Kan.

Jean Hill Award -- Given by the KU Nurses Alumni Association to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding clinical performance:
- Caysi Bonebrake, Olathe, Kan.

GRADUATE AWARDS

Hester Thurston Award --Given by the KU School of Nursing to the graduate from the Master's program who exemplifies excellence in leadership and community service activities:
- Brenda Nickel, Olpe, Kan.

Colleen P. Kosiak Graduate Student Clinical Excellence Award -- Given by the KU School of Nursing to a Master's student who has demonstrated clinical expertise in providing holistic patient care:
- Becky Austin-Morris, Olathe, Kan.

Ruth O. McKibben Alumni Research Award -- Given by the KU Nurses Alumni Association to the PhD nursing student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship and leadership:
- Jill Peltzer, Kansas City, Kan.

Melba Carter Award -- Given by the KU School of Nursing to the PhD nursing student whose dissertation was most outstanding in the field of health promotion or disease prevention:
- Cheryl Spittler, Leawood, Kan.

Sigma Theta Tau Award -- Given by the Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau to a Doctoral student who demonstrates research skill, leadership and commitment to nursing:
- Jamie Myers, Edwardsville, Kan.

FACULTY AWARDS

Jayhawker, RN Clinical Award -- Presented by the 2011 Senior Class to a nursing clinical instructor voted most outstanding by the senior class:
- Jenny Beerman, RN, MN, Clinical Assistant Professor

Jayhawker, RN Lecture Award -- Presented by the 2011 Senior Class to a nursing lecture instructor voted most outstanding by the senior class:
- Lynelle Pierce, BSN, MS, Clinical Assistant Professor

Phyllis Keeney Lawrence Teaching Award -- Presented by the School of Nursing to the faculty member with a superior record of teaching performance, who has made a significant contribution to curriculum development and who uses innovative teaching approaches:
- R. Geraldine Neuberger, RN, MN, EdD, ARNP, Professor

Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Classroom Teaching -- Presented by the University of Kansas to a faculty member for outstanding classroom teaching:
- Wanda Bonnel, RN, PhD, GNP-BC, ANEF, Associate Professor
